Darwin's theory of Evolution

Darwin’s theory of Evolution called the Natural Selection which was first formulated in Darwin’s book in 1859. Evolution by natural selection is one of the best sustained theories in the history of science. This theory involves a wide variety of paleontology, geology, genetics and developmental biology. Darwin did not develop his theory completely on his own; he was influenced by the ideas of earlier thinkers. One of these earlier thinkers that influenced Darwin’s theory was Charles Lyell. Charles Lyell was a well-known English geologist. In Lyell’s book Principles of Geology, Lyell argued that gradual geological processes have gradually shaped Earth’s surface. From this statement, Lyell inferred that Earth must certainly be for older than later influenced Darwin’s theory of Evolution.

  1. I suspect you didn't see the guidelines for this post? You seem to be just describing Lyell's work, as it relates to Darwin's work, but you don't address the actual prompts in the guidelines. I can give you credit for the first prompt but not the rest.

Make sure you read the guidelines carefully. If you have questions about them, please email me.

  2. I think you have a good explanation of Darwin's ideas, however there wasn't a lot of information on how Lyell's work influenced that of Charles Darwin. The bullet points in the assignment would have allowed you to go into greater detail so the reader could understand the points you were trying to get across in your blog. Otherwise, in the information you do have, it is informative, I just feel you could have elaborated a lot more on the points you were trying to make.

  3. Hello,

I think you started off with great points. In addition to your post, he made a great contribution to evolution. He said that evolution starts from geology and understanding the Earth's face and environment are constantly changing and unpredictable. Lylell thought Earth must be older than people perceived it to be, and advanced the idea that the Earth changes over time. Darwin took his book on the Beagle and was very inspired by it. Darwin's experiences on that voyage backed up those of Lylell.
